What is spiritual authority?
Spiritual authority refers to the power or influence that an individual or institution exerts in spiritual or religious contexts. This authority can manifest in various forms, depending on the beliefs, practices, and traditions of a particular faith. Here are three key aspects of achieving spiritual authority in prayer:
Taking authority in prayer means stepping into the power and position the Most High has already given you through Christ. Here are three ways a person can take authority while in prayer:
1. Pray in the Name of Yashaya (Jesus Christ)
The authority is not in our own strength but in His. Praying “in the name of Yashaya” is not just saying His name, but standing in His victory, His blood, and His resurrection power. (John 14:13–14, Philippians 2:9–10).
2. Declare and Decree the Word of the Most High
Authority is exercised by speaking God’s Word into the situation. For example: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17) or “I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony” (Revelation 12:11). The Word is a sword in spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:17).
3. Bind and Loose in the Spirit
As Yashaya taught in Matthew 18:18, “Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” This means forbidding (binding) the works of darkness and releasing (loosing) the will, blessings, and power of the Kingdom of Ahayah into your life.
