He was tried before the Jewish council (Sanhedrin), then handed over to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, who reluctantly gave the order for crucifixion after pressure from the crowd (John 19:12–16).
Christ was led to a hill outside Jerusalem called Golgotha (Calvary) (John 19:17).
He was nailed through His hands and feet to a wooden cross.
Above Him, Pilate placed a sign: “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews” (John 19:19).
As He hung there, soldiers cast lots for His clothing (Psalm 22:18 fulfilled).
Two criminals were crucified beside Him, one mocking, the other repenting and asking to be remembered (Luke 23:39–43).
